When You Become A Mother-In-Love
First, I have to thank a friend (sorry I forgot who though, but it does not mean gratitude isn’t needed) for coining this new phrase, mother-in-love. From the traditional mother-in-law, Christians have coined mother-in-grace, an apt moniker for we believe that Grace undergirds all of life.
The newer MIL however calls out to me, perhaps because I love a good challenge, but more, because I am learning that the ways of Love are the ways of Life, and that love is the true power in life.
Now that the busyness and the buzz of the wedding event are past, I realize that I have changed.
The friendship and courtship lasted four years, so there was plenty of time for me to grow up, rethink my expectations, and calibrate my idiosyncrasies!
When our children grow up, we tend to forget that we still need to grow along with them.
Indeed this is the wondrous gift embedded in the seasons and stations of life. Most parents think only of what they have to pour out and miss the marvelous gems offered to their souls found in the journey of loving another being into maturity.
My strong-willed daughter won’t let me off the hook so easily. There are days when we lock horns and I get tired of trying to get her to see my point of view. But many days, I realized that she has a valid…
