Mini-stories from my memory alley & the practice of Recollection

I joined a writing challenge recently and failed superbly because making time to write in response to a prompt each day was just hard.

Thanks to my incredibly buzzy brain, at this moment I cannot tell you how I came across this entire 21-day deal, but I signed up as I thought it would keep the juices flowing since I am working on my book, and more writing is better than less.

Hosted on Service Space, our challenge occupied a specific pod which turned out to be a really fun space with several hundred people all banging on their keyboards from somewhere in actual places telling real stories. It always feels good to know that humanity is showing up to sense-make and live as well as each one knows how.

I completed all of only eight prompts (my Math is weak, but even I know this is really pretty dismal), but it has done good for my soul. The prompts I wrote in response to all involved recall of previous experiences.

Most of us do a swift and superficial recall, utter a hasty word of gratitude and get busy with life. Recollection makes us slow down and take a closer look, feel afresh, ponder fresh angles and take in the gift of the memory. It can become a spiritual practice where one does not simply recall events but sense what they may convey for the well-being…
