It is funny. We follow the news, we argue and wager.

Then, we awake to decisions cast and things set, and, we go on with our lives.

It touches and bothers us differently. Are you an ideologue? Are you the crestfallen campaigner? Are you the market pundit? Are you the avenged voter who feels vindicated?

We see events from where we stand, and project trajectories from what we sense.

My eighteen-year-old told me some social media threw up that Russia and reached out and offered to bring the nasty war to an end. More wheel-and-deal while lives are parlayed like game pieces.

From the financial side of things, we are told that the market is bullish. Some will be happy about this and many will be scrambling to buy and sell to maximize personal gains. More aim-and-shoot while the larger questions of economic inequities go ignored.

The debate about a man’s character and behaviour and his suitability for such high office continues because our innate moral sense is affronted. More what-comes-first impasse while the rules of the game won’t respond to our sensibilities.

What is it about human beings that enjoy the privilege of holding court and putting forth cherished viewpoints? It makes us feel alive and important perhaps? It…
